Yusen Logistics Deploys AI Human-Robot Orchestration

Warehouse automation is increasingly extending beyond individual robotic tasks to software designed to coordinate people, machines and workflows. That shift forms the basis of a new collaboration between Yusen Logistics (Americas) and warehouse technology developer Destro AI.

The companies have announced the deployment of Destro’s AI-powered human-robot collaboration platform within Yusen’s transload operations, where freight moves through inbound receiving, staging, dock activities and outbound shipping. Rather than automating an entire process, the initial deployment focuses on optimising cart movements by coordinating work assignments between warehouse employees and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).

According to Yusen Logistics and Destro, the platform continuously analyses warehouse conditions and allocates work based on operational priorities. The companies said the system is designed to provide real-time visibility into warehouse activity while reducing manual coordination and improving execution consistency. Those performance benefits remain company claims, and no operational metrics or independent validation have been released.

The deployment reflects growing interest in workflow orchestration platforms that coordinate activity across people and automation rather than managing isolated robotic tasks. Such systems are intended to determine how work should be assigned and adjusted as warehouse conditions change throughout the day.

Destro describes its technology as a “Physical AI” platform that coordinates warehouse workflows across employees and robotic systems. According to the company, its software observes warehouse conditions, simulates operational scenarios and issues work assignments across autonomous mobile robots and other warehouse resources. These descriptions are based on Destro’s characterisation of the platform and have not been independently validated.

Yusen said the partnership forms part of its broader strategy to expand intelligent automation across its logistics network. Future phases of the collaboration may evaluate additional applications, including pallet movement and AI-powered workflow verification, although the companies have not announced deployments of those capabilities.

Rick Brunelle, Director of Automation at Yusen Logistics (Americas), said the company believes automation delivers the greatest value when it enables employees to work more effectively while improving operational reliability and customer service. Destro founder and Chief Executive Officer Manthan Pawar said warehouses require intelligent coordination across people and robots rather than automation operating in isolation.

The announcement does not identify the facility where the platform is being deployed or disclose the investment value, implementation timetable, number of robots involved or performance benchmarks. It also does not specify whether the deployment is a pilot project or a full operational rollout.

For warehouse operators, the collaboration highlights increasing interest in software that manages mixed human-robot workflows within dynamic warehouse environments. Whether the platform delivers measurable operational improvements will depend on performance data that has yet to be released.
